In this course,Dr.Bonnemawill introduce some basic principles of plant breeding, discuss reproduction modes, the connection between phenotype, genotype and environment, the terms homozygosity, heterozygosity, homogeneity and heterogeneity, the types of mapping populations that can assist in generation of genetic maps and genetic mapping of traits. Marker assisted selection will be discussed, with special attention to both the application of forward and background selection.
